headed across the occoquan. that's a check of your fox 5 on-timetraffic. on-timetraffic. our big story this morning, the first nats home playoff game since 1933 and it starts at 1:00 this afternoon and will likely let out at the height of the afternoon rush hour. so if you are riding the rails to and from the game, metro has some advice for you. >> you should try to avoid switching lines near round town so stay away from the metro center, l'enfant plaza and gallery place if you can. you might want to take the new jersey avenue entrance to the navy yard ballpark station because it gets less crowded and make sure you have your smart trip or fare card before you leave for the game to avoid long lines at the vending machines. >> today, game three of the series between the cardinals and nationals. the nats look to rebound from monday's loss way little home cooking here. >> the first post-season game in d.c. in 79 years is definitely a crucial one.

dave ross is live at the park with a preview. dave? >> reporter: for the first time in 79 years, we've got playoff baseball in d.c. we've got a 1:07 first pitch t will be edwin jackson against chris carpenter of the st. louis cardinals. this is a big one. it is the pivotal game three with this series tied up at one game apiece. how did we get there? the nats returned home yesterday and had a nice little light practice in preparation for today's game three. they did what they had to do getting that split in st. louis. those first two games of the series played there. what that means now, it is the best of three game scenario here at nats park with the first team winning three games advancing to the series. >> we've been a good home team. we know we've put ourselves in a good position to come home and just win a series. if we can do that like wave

let's get back to the studio for now. >> thank you. new this morning, a former campaign aide to mayor vincent gray who pleaded guilty to lying to federal investigators back in may will be sentenced later on today. howard brooks admits he gave under the table payments using fraudulent money orders to then minor candidate in the 2010 mayor's race suleiman brown. brooks could face six months in jail but prosecutors said they are open to allowing probation. former d.c. council chairman kwame brown is now order by a judge to check in with the court in person and not over the phone. he was given an overnight curfew from 11:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. all of this comes after a federal judge lashed out at brown for missing three court- ordered check-ins. a maryland lawmaker will spend three years on probation after pleading guilty to misconduct in office.

delegate tiffany alston was accused of paying a law firm employee $800 in state money of she was also accused of theft and using state funds for her wedding. she will have to perform 300 hours of community service and pay pack the $#00 to the state. -- $800 to the state. lawyers for jerry sandusky say they plan to appeal his sentence. tuesday, a judge sentenced sandusky to a minimum of 30 years in prison. sandusky was convicted earlier this year of sexually abusing 10 children. during tuesday's hearing, some of sandusky's victims testified and described how sandusky's abuse changed their lives. sandusky also addressed the court and again denied any wrongdoing. some of sandusky's victims are suing penn state over how the university responded to the complaints about sandusky. when we come back, we'll talk about a heinous crime. a 14-year-old girl shot for expressing her demand for an

a massive fire at a commercial building in california. about 150 firefighters responded to this fire. five were treated for minor injuries. the building is a total loss. no word on what time of busiding housed. the state department is expected to present its findings to congress in the investigation of last month's attacks on the u.s. consulate which kid u.s. ambassador chris steve an and three other americans. yesterday, department said it did not believe the attacks were linked to protests over an anti-is a is lambic film made in the u.s. new documents suggest there was an internal disagreement about the amount of security needed at the consulate. the taliban is claiming responsibility for the shooting of a 14-year-old girl in pakistan. the teen activist was shot twice while riding on a bus

today. not expecting rain for your wednesday so that is good news. should be nice and dry if you are headed out to the park. 57 in washington. it is cool in many spots. 55 in leonardtown. 40s, got a little bit of clearing off to the north and west. that is allowing temperatures to bottom out in places like winchester at 41. slightly warmer day and i promise a lot more sunshine along with dry conditions. we do have a the bit of drizzle in a few spots. most of the drizzle is up into northern new jersey and a little light rain up there towards new york state. here what is is happening. cold front, that will start to march toward our area later today. it should start to clear things out here cloud-wise over the morning hours. as that front moves through later this afternoon, some breezes but it should move through dry. it will just be cooler behind the front later tonight and during the day tomorrow. so about 07 today and then we'll fall back into high temperatures in the low 60s tomorrow. so jacket weather here to stay for the next couple of days. 07 today, early clouds. here comes the afternoon sun.

oxon hill and alexandria. southbound 270 in good happen -- in good shape headed out towards the split. gas prices are already high and some local drivers may be asked to pay even more. take a look at the recent changes. the prices went up four cent a balance long in d.c. yesterday. they are more than -- a gallon in d.c. yesterday and they are more than 40 cents a gallon higher than last year. >> montgomery county is in dire need of transportation funding. the county council met with business leaders on tuesday and one of the hot topics, a possible county-wide gas tax. willmar -- lauren demarco has the story us for. >> reporter: gas prices on the move again steadily increasing for the last seven weeks. it is unlikely maryland legislators would agree to an increase on the state's gas tax society president of the montgomery county council wants to take the matter into his own hand.

>> if the state does not have the political will to do this, then i'm he saying local governments like montgomery county have to be able to move forward on their own. >> reporter: roger berliner wants the state to give county lawmaker the authority to raise das gas taxes. the county would retain 100% of the revenue with funding going toward road improvement projects and public transportation like the purple line and the corridor cities transit way arab proposed bus line between shade yes grove and clarksburg. >> many communities don't have the big transit needs we have. we have needs to major funding. >> reporter: joan fiddler says she is concerned we are hundreder's plan to set a dangerous precedent. >> don't we in montgomery county pay taxes that benefit the people in garrett county and allegheny county and prince george's county and so forth? for every dollar we send to annapolis, we get 18 cents back. are we now going to say in addition to that, we are going

private school in florida offering people chances to swim with tigers. >> critics say it can be dangerous but zoo officials say that people are protected. we have more in this report. >> reporter: toppity tiger cub is making quite a splash at dade city's wild things a private zoo, rescue and rehab center where lions room, you can interact with monkeys like backer here or swim with this six week old siberian cub. but critics wonder just like alligator attackss that came under fire for their kids' swim parties with gators last month, are big cats and kids in pool an appropriate pair something. >> with any animal, there is always a risk. it is not like we're going to throw you in the pool and say here is the tiger. you are in there with one of the trainers in the water with you. >> reporter: president and head train errandy stern says tigers are natural swimmers with webbing between their toes. there are no laws regulating

swimming with tigers. >> they are very strong but they are also very well trained. that is why a lot of other places don't let you interact because they don't have the staff and the knowledge to do t. >> reporter: to his knowledge, he has the only place in the u.s. you can do this. >> the tigers by state law like tony here can only be with the public until they are 40 ands. >> and that is with a leash. state law says it is okay for big cats 25-pound or less to be handled with only a trainer's restraint but a trainer must be present and all wildlife should be exhibited in a manner that is safe for the public. swimming with tony is not cheap. you sign a general release and for $200 you can frolic for 30 minutes in the water or on the lawn and help out with bottle feeding. >> he is only at eight pounds right now but in the end, he will wiped up just like his dad, well over 1 how pounds.

prosecutors will not seek the death penalty in a montgomery county murder case. that decision was revealed during a pretrial hearing for curtis lopez. he is accused of killing his estranged wife last year and beating her 11-year-old son with a baseball bat. the boy's body was later found in the woods. during the hearing, lopez' lawyers tried to get evidence from a medical expert suppressed but the judge says he will allow the testimony. opponents of a controversial advertisement now up at several metro stations are asking for equal time. the ad says in any war between the civilized man and the savage, support the civilized man. support israel. defeat jihad. some people see the message as an attack on islam. the council on american islamic relates is considering a count are ad campaign. metro says the group can do it if space nearby becomes available and if they pay for

park. they did their job over in the lou winning one game. that means the last three games if necessary will be played here at nats park. they have to win two out of three to move onto the nlcs but first things first and that first game today is going to feature edwin jackson. yes, the right-hander getting the start today. it is his first start of the post-season. he hasn't pitched since the last game in the regular season when he picked up his 10th win. he knows st. louis well because he used to play for them. the last time he played them and pitched against them fox the nat, not so much. he knows his post-series experience will help him and his teammates have got his back and they are ready to fire back. >> he has pitched a ton in the post-season and i think throughout the whole regular season, our starting staff is relatively young still and for him to be able to kind of talk to them and give them advice day in and day out on how to be ready every fifth day has really helped them through route the regular season.

a man arrested at l.a. international airport for bringing a stockpile of weapons will be in court for a detention hearing on friday. police say he had a smoke grenade, gas mask, leg iron and weapons in his luggage and he was dressed in a trench coat, bulletproof vest and fire resistant pants. he is a u.s. citizen from boston and it had just started living and working in japan so. the death of a virginia newspaper reporter has officially been ruled a murder actually medical examiner says sarah greenhalgh was shot in the neck back in july. so far, there have been no arrests in her death. greenhalgh worked for winchester star. a captser pay shouldn't taking what she calls an end of life vacation says she was
